Foundation begins training for organic farmers

As the contract peri-od with the service provid-ers under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER), which is being implemented by Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) is set to expire after three years, Green Foundation Mani-pur has commenced train-ing for organic farmers so that they could continue organic farming after the handholding support from the service providers.
As part of the initiative, a seven-day training pro-gramme has commenced at the Foundation's Farm-ers' Convention Centre at Kwakeithel under the theme 'Capacity building and consistency manage-ment of FPOs for board of directors, chief executive officers and farmers inter-est group leaders, LRPs un-der MOVCDNER 2 & 3' from Friday.
Farmer members of FPOs, Board of Direc-tor members, CEOs and leaders of farmer interest groups are participating in the training programme.Speaking on the occa-sion, Green Foundation Manipur CEO U Himmat informed the participants about the role of service providers in extending technical support to the farmers in terms of farming techniques and marketing.
However, the farmers will be left without any support or technical knowledge once the contract period with the service providers is over, he explained.During the technical ses-sion of the training pro-gramme on the first day, Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM) director K Joychandra spoke on 'El-ements of managing FPO', 'Roles and responsibilities of BODs, CEO & FIG lead-ers, LRP' and 'Roles of FPO in inputs, outputs services in agriculture' as resource person.
Several faculty members of ICM will also speak on different topics as resource persons during the course of the seven-day long training programme.
