Imphal, February 20 2020:
Dissatisfied with the State Government's order regarding ROP (2019) downward scale, teachers of AMESTA, AMSSTA, AMGHSLWA, under the aegis of Council of Teachers' Association (COTA), have been staging sit in protests in front of the ZEO office, both in the hills and the valley.
Following the resolutions adopted during the recent meeting of COTA organised at Iboyaima Shanglen, the 14th sit in protest was staged at ZEO Wangoi today.
The series of agitations have been taken up as a result of the ignorance and inaction of the State Government to correct the flaws in ROP (2019), said a press release issued by co-convenor of COTA.
An MoU was signed with COTA convenors and the previous Government.
As such, the State cabinet, at that time, had decided to render a pay scale of Rs 9300- Rs 34800 + AGP (Rs 3000) for primary teachers, Rs 9300-Rs 34800 + AGP (Rs 3900) for graduate teachers and Rs 9300 - Rs 34800 + AGP (Rs 4800) for lecturers.
The statement continued that ROP is revised every after ten years and the salary is given according to the economic condition of the State.
It stated that COTA is demanding to implement 7th Pay for Government school teachers while urging the State Government to fulfil its promises and rectify the pay scale for the school teachers.
COTA lamented that the State Government has left the school teachers behind as it okayed the implementation of 7th pay for Government college teachers.
The ROP is given less to the school teachers even though it should be increased every after ten years.
The association warned that the teachers community will intensify its stir if the State Government continues to neglect the demands of COTA.
