Lokadong turmeric popular among companies

Demand for "Lokadong", a variety of turmeric grown by Kakching Organic Producer Company Limited (KOPCL), Kakching, by companies operating outside the State is increasing, said the company chairman cum social worker, Naorem Achouba, today.
Speaking to media persons, N Achouba stated that KOPCL, which was established in 2018, started growing Lakadong turmeric in 10 hectares of land under the supervision of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) and Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region.
The turmeric planted for the first phase on 5 hectares of field were harvested on February 9 in the presence of MOMA's Project Director and staff, he said adding that 300 bags of Lakadong turmeric has been harvested so far.
Apart from the clients who approached them for marketing before the plantation, many new companies are demanding the turmeric variety, he said and added that KOPCL can't supply for all demands due to limitation in field size.
Necessary steps will be taken up to do business with more companies in future, he assured.
