PWA observes death anniversary of Govind Pansare

Progressive Writers Association (PWA) Manipur observed the death anniversary of well-known writer Govind Pansare at Irabot Bhaban today.
Progressive Writers association advisor L Iboyaima and former Minister Dr M Nara were present at the function as dais members.
Floral tributes were paid to the photo of Govind Pansare.
Addressing the gathering, former president of PWA Manipur JK Luwang said that February 20 has been the most painful and unfortunate day for writers and sympathisers across the country following the murder of the Govind Pansare.
Condemning his death and the death of other writers in India, 40 Sahitya Akademi awardees/writers and people who are in the field of Art and Culture gave up their awards to the Government, he noted.
Govind Pandharinath Pansare was born on 24 November 1933 in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra.
While studying in Rajaram college, Kolhapur, he read various books on the left ideologies.
He also participated in Samyukta Maharashtra Movement and the Goa liberation movement as well.
After completing his Bachelor of Arts, he studied law in Shahaji Law College and completed his LLB.
In 1964, when the Communist Party of India (CPI) split, he stayed with the parent party.
He later became a state secretary of the CPI and a member of CPI's National executive.
Pansare has written 21 books, out of which Shivaji Kon Hota (Marathi for Who was Shivaji) is considered his most notable work.
The Communist leader Govind Pansare succumbed to his wounds on February 20, four days after unidentified gunmen shot at him and his wife during their morning walk in Kolhapur.
