5 more days police remand

Imphal, February 20 2020:
One Ayekpam Chinglensana (27) and his younger brother Ayekpam Naocha (21) s/o Janeshwor of Takyel Khongbal Leirak Achouba, were remanded to 5 more days police custody today (till Feb 24) in connection with the suspicious death of Chinglensana's wife, Ayekpam (O) Marina Devi on February 14 .
The two individuals were produced before CJM Imphal West at Cheirap Court today under heavy security.
During the proceeding, the IO of the case explained that the duo were arrested on the night of February 17 after they surrendered before Lamphel PS.
The IO submitted that during interrogation, Chinglensana denied the charges levelled against him, apart from refusing to disclose the reason as to why his wife reportedly committed suicide by hanging in their own bedroom.
Ayekpam Naocha also declined to divulge any clue/circumstances leading to the death of the victim, the IO informed adding that as per the post mortem report from Forensic Science Medicine Department of RIMS, the death was caused by asphyxia from the hanging.
Stressing on the need to conduct further investigation into the mysterious death of the victim, the IO prayed for 5 more days police remand of the two individuals.
Satisfied with the prayer, the Court rejected the bail applications which were filed by counsels of the duo and instead remanded them to police custody till February 24 .
On the other hand, when the two individuals were being brought out after the hearing, angry locals and family members of the deceased who had gathered at the Court complex, tried to attack them, but they were quickly whisked away in a police vehicle thus preventing the situation from escalating further.
