The inaugural function of the 3-day long conference of Ruangmei Lu Phuam (RLP)/ Rongmei Women Organisation was held at Langol Tarung here today with nearly 4000 women and other delegates from three States of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.
MP of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Mani Charenamei who was the chief guest exhorted that women today have great role to play for world peace and development.
The MP encouraged the women community of Rongmei (Kabui) tribe to revive the institutions of traditional Khangchiu and Luchiu to bring about moral, religious and discipline among the people.
He also appealed to all the delegates to work for rvival of traditional and cultural institutions like Boys/Girls' dormitories/ Pakhang Leisha Phals, etc.
The chief guest also donated a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the fund of the organisation for development.
G Panti was the president of the function.
Cultural dances, folk songs, theme song, singing competition, debate, extempore speech, HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, educational campaign, exhibition of tribal artifacts, choregraphy, music concert, sports, etc are the some of the main highlight of the 3-day long conference.
Former vice president of Naga Hoho G Gaingam, MPCC president Gaikhangam, Vice chairman of Hill Areas Committee Khangthuanang Panmei, president of Rongmei Women Prayer Ministry (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) Ph Amunlu Gangmei, Health Commissioner LP Gonmei and Excise Commissioner K Panmei were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
