Imphal, February 10 2009:
Coming out strongly against the social auditing and situational analysis being carried out by some organisations without the permission of the authorities concerned, All Manipur NGOs Partners' Consortium on HIV/AIDS (AMNPC) has categorically stated that trying to mislead the people through false allegation on the alleged shortfalls of the NGOs working in the field sincerely would not help in tackling the issue of HIV/AIDS in Manipur.
In a statement, AMNPC vice president Dhyanchand pointed out that extension of co-operation and support in the right direction by the Government and other voluntary organisations with real understanding of the problems being facedof the NGOs would only ensure quality service.
Saying that there is no change in the stand of the Consortium not to co-operate in the social audit and situational analysis by any organisation which do not come through proper channel, the statement added that the door would be always wide open for those coming through propr channel.
Highlighting some of the achievements made by Manipur State AIDS Control Society and its NGO partners in tackling the problem of HIV/AIDS in the State so far, the statement mentioned that HIV prevalence rate among the IDUs has come down to 19 percent from 77 percent in 1998 and the mortality rate among the HIV positive people has reduced over the last 2 years.
The statement further mentioned inspite of fund not being released on time, NGOs have been trying their best in ensyring Nutritional supports and free blood investigation to HIV affected people, monetary assistance for treatment of drug users in drug de-addiction centres and providing jobs to PLHAs in NGO projects.
