Meeting held amidst public protest, nine injured

As election campaign for the forthcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly Election gathering is tempo in every nook and corner of the state, an election related meeting of MLA Dr I Ibohanbi was held amidst public protest under tight security measures at Ngaikhong Khunou in Bishnupur district.
At least nine persons were injured in the police action to disperse the protestors who tried to stop the meeting.
The incident occurred when some locals of Ngaikhong Khunou tried to stop a camera meeting for their MLA Dr I Ibohanbi which was scheduled to be held at the residence of one Pukhrambam Meghen of Ngaikhong Khunou Maning Leikai at around 3 pm today.
A team of Bishnupur police asked the protestors to clear the street and allow free passage for the MLA to attend the meeting.
Reluctant to step back from their stand, the protestors stood blocking the way.
The police team was forced to use tear gas shells to disperse the protestors in which nine women were injured and rushed to Bishnupur district hospital.
Later, the meeting was held under tight security measures with more than 400 workers of the MLA attending the meeting.
MLA Dr Ibohanbi told reporters that the conduct of the protestors who tried to stop the meeting is against every democratic norms.
He also appealed to the people not to fall prey to instigation of some persons and refrain themselves from such incidents.
Meanwhile, protestors told reporters that the MLA did not do any developmental work in Ngaikhong Khullen, Ngaikhong Siphai, Toubul, Khoijuman and Ngakchoupokpi areas during his tenure as their representative.
Frustrated with his irresponsible attitude towards the people of this constituency a public meeting organized by the Ngaikhong Khullen Women's Front held at Ngaikhong Khullen Gandhi Keithel resolved to elect Khundrakpam Romio as their representative to the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
