Setting October 8 as fresh deadline to the State Government , 54 elected members of Ward Development Committee under Imphal Municipal Council, who have not been assigned duty even after 4 months of being elected, have warned of taking recourse to the State Government fails to implement the assurance given to them earlier.
Addressing a press conference in this connection at Manipur Press Club here today, Tourangbam Indrajit, one of the elected Ward Development Committee members, recalled that under the Manipur Municipality Act, 1994 and its related Rules, election of Ward Development Committee members under Imphal Municipal Council was conducted for the first time in Manipur along with that of the Councillors on May 25 last and the results were declared on May 29.Consequently, the oath taking of the elected Councillors was held June 13 but it is still pending for the 54 elected Ward Development Committee members.
Following strong pressure for recognising the elected Ward Development Committee members, identity cards have been issued to them on August 17 but they have been assigned duties till date, Indrajit said.
In an earlier meeting, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured that the process of forming Ward Development Committees would be finalised latest by September.
But the assurance has not been implemented so far, Indrajit lamented.
