Councillor thrashed for abusing Erabot's daughter

Councilor of ward number 23, L Birjit was beaten up for manhandling the daughter of Minister Y Erabot who is also a lecturer in LMS Law College.
The victim Y Sarojbala appealed to the people not to politicize the incident.
Meanwhile, a sit in protest was staged at Khurai Tourangbam Leikai protesting against the beating up of the councilor by workers of Minister Y Erabot.
Speaking to media persons, Y Sarojbala, who is the daughter of Minister Y Erabot said that the incident occurred when she was returning back home from the college.
On her way back home she was followed by an i10 car with continuous honking.
She told the driver of the i10 car that her vehicle could not speed up as there was a Tata DI blocking the way.
The driver who was drunk came out of the car and started abusing her, finally giving her a punch.
The drunk driver turned out to be Councillor L Birjit.
Then there was a bit of tussle between him and her driver.
Later on, people from nearby came to the scene and enquired about the problem.
On learning that Birjit had manhandled a fair sex fully drunk, he was beaten up by the crowd, she said.
She further went on to say that an FIR has been lodged in the police station and she questioned the inability of the police to take action against Birjit.
She also said that Birjit should apologise to her.
Meanwhile, a sit in protest was staged against the beating up of councilor L Birjit by workers of Minister Irabot and demanded that those persons involved in the act should be given a befitting punishment.
The act of beating up an elected Councilor is against the law, said the protestors.
The sit in protest was disrupted by some women on the ground that the protestors are directly favouring a culprit who even went to the extend of beating a women in public.
There was some confrontation among the two groups leading to rising tensions among them.
The situation was brought under control by the arrival of Imphal East police led by Pushpanjali, Addl SP, IE .
Speaking to media persons, the protestors who were staging the sit in protest said that the charges leveled against L Birjit that is baseless.
L Birjit had never laid a hand on her.
Instigated by the false charge some of the workers of Minister Irabot came to the house of L Birjit and beat him up black and blue.
He has been admitted at the Raj Poly Clinic in North AOC.
