Landslides cut off NH-37

Landslides at many places along NH-37 have cut off Jiribam district from the rest of the and brought vehicular movement to a complete halt.
Piles of rocks and debris have cut off the National Highway (Imphal-Jiribam) at places such as Oinamlong, Khangsang and several areas in Barak and Makru.
While BIPL personnel under NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) are working to clear the debris and let vehicular movement resume, the extent of the damages inflicted by the landslides is not known yet.
Meanwhile, amidst the landslides triggered by the rains in the past hours, one house and a shop have been washed off by flood near Barak bridge, reports our correspondent.
The dwelling house belonged to one Gwangthuanlung while the shop belonged to Gaininglung Gangmei.
On the other hand, rains from last night to morning today caused water logging at various roads and localities in Kakwa and Konung Mamang areas.
Water levels of Nambul River, Imphal River and Kongba River have risen but they are well below the danger level.
However, if rains continue to batter like yesterday for two or three days, the water levels may rise above danger level causing flash flood, said locals expressing apprehension.
According to IMD (India Meteorological Department), the State recorded 56.8 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours (between 8.30 am yesterday and 8.30 am today) .
It also predicted the weather for the next four days to be partly cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
