Thoubal, June 02 2020:
The Institutional Quarantine Centres (IQC) opened in different parts of Thoubal districts are reportedly in a bad shape as both medical teams and inmates are faced with various problems, resulting in clashes between them.
The doctors and medical staff stationed at these IQCs had submitted a complaint letter to the Thoubal DC today.
The doctors and staff have also drawn the attention of the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to address their grievances.
Further, they condemned the act of violence and alleged use of offensive words against the medical staff by the inmates of Waikhom Mani Girls College yesterday.
The medical staff have also requested for security personnel to be posted at the centres and appealed to the concerned authority to take care of basic needs such as water supply, food, electricity etc.
Saying that the procedure of 'testing' is not in their hands, they expressed the need to educate and inform the inmates on the topic of 'testing', as the doctors and medical staff allegedly face constant harassment from the inmates with regard to tests and test results.
On the other hand, the inmates have expressed dissatisfaction over inadequate amenities at the IQCs in the district.
They also stated that adequate masks and sanitizers have not been provided to the inmates and moreover the medical test results are still pending even after 9 days from day of testing.
It was also informed by the inmates that mixing of people arriving from 'Green zone' and 'Red zone' by accommodating them within the same space has become a cause of worry amongst the inmates and guardians.
