Imphal, June 02 2020:
Tribal Upliftment Centre (TUC) has appealed the State Government to depute more doctors and ambulances in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts in view of rising number of returnees and number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State.
TUC expressed gratefulness to the State Government and concerned department for working overtime to ensure safety of all besides District Administrations, MLA's, ADC, CSO's, Churches in Ukhrul and Kamjong for helping in accommodating the returnees and preventing a major outbreak.
TUC however drew attention of the Government to allot more doctors and ambulances as the doctor/population ratio in the two districts is extremely low, distance of testing are too far and there have been incidents arising out of shortage of manpower in handling the returnees.
In the statement, TUC pointed out that only 55 doctors are being deputed in the Ukhrul district which has about 1.5 lakh population and hosts more than 3,000 returnees while Kamjong, with 60,000 population and large number of returnees are being managed by 15 doctors which is way below State's overall doctor/population ratio of 1:1300 .
TUC also appealed all to co-operate more with authorities by supporting healthcare workers and to follow guidelines to effectively contain the spread of the disease.
