Imphal, June 02 2020:
Three persons have been apprehended by Imphal East district police for forging Chief Minister N Biren's signature.
Briefing media persons at his Porompat office this morning, Imphal East SP Haobijam Jogeshchandra said that the three persons were arrested in due course of investigation after registering two FIRs based on a report furnished by JNIMS Director Prof Th Bhimo.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Nongthombam Ibomcha (47) s/o late Angoucha of Pourabi Mayai Leikai, Ninghui Keishing (66) s/o Releng Keishing of Bungpa Khunou and Khoinaijam Dijen (48) s/o late Kharekpa of Samaram Mayai Leikai.
The UO letters purportedly from the Chief Minister were received by the JNIMS Director on January this year regarding appointment of three nurses and eight attendants in JNIMS.
The UO letters listed names of some individuals with a recommendation to appoint the listed individuals as nurses and attendants in JNIMS.
As the Chief Minister's signatures appended on the UO letters looked suspicious, the JNIMS Director filed a report at Porompat police station.
Subsequently, two FIRs were registered and due investigation was initiated, said the Imphal East SP.
In the course of investigation, it was established that the Chief Minister's signatures were forged ones and all three of them were arrested one by one on Sunday, Jogeshchandra said.
According to the SP, the three have confessed to forging the CM's signatures and sending UO letters to the JNIMS Director with the forged signatures.
However, it is also necessary to further investigate the case and ascertain if any other individuals are involved in the fraud and whether money was collected from people on the assurance of securing appointment at JNIMS, said the SP.
Ibomcha, Ninghui and Dijen were produced before the Court of CJM Imphal East yesterday and the Court remanded them to police custody for three days.
