One day seminar held

A one day seminar on Manipuri language and culture was organised at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak, Imphal under the aegis of All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) today.
Speaking at the seminar as chief guest, culture activist Naba Wareppa, who is also the president of the Theatre Centre Manipur, said that there is a need to understand and learn the culture of different clans and communities inhabited in Manipur, to define what culture is.
Old ethnic trends in a culture must be rejuvenated to make it more beautiful and profound, which could be then called a civilization.
A cultural civilisation must be established through the enhancement of history and language.
"We must encourage scholars lecturing on Laiharaoba and Pena to know the insight of our history.
The mess in Manipuri language due to the involvement and popularity of foreign words must be cleared and restricted to improvise the language", he concluded.
Social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and AMESCO President S Nando also took part in the seminar whereas Retd Prof of MU, Ningomba; Linguistic Prof of MU, Ch Yashwanta and Linguistic Prof of MU, N Promodini Devi spoke as resource persons.
