Imphal, September 21 2014:
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) today lauded the decision of the State Cabinet to scrap the gazette notification of establishing Village Development Committee (VDC) and the proposed New Land Use Policy (NLUP) .
Speaking to mediapersons in Kuki Inn this evening during a meeting, KIM general secretary Khaimang Chongloi said, "We have been following our tradition since the time immemorial where any developmental and administrative activities are initiated by the village chief.
The introduction of VDC and NLUP pose a threat to years long traditional practices" .
He clarified that Kuki people are only against the developmental policies of the State Government.
It is unfortunate to notice that various developmental schemes in the hill districts especially in Kuki inhabited areas are not implemented as it should be.
For the development and welfare of the people, KIM would encourage and support all the initiatives of the State Government in future, Khaimang Chongloi said.
Expressing his gratitude to Chief Minister O Ibobi and his cabinet for considering the appeal of the people, Khaimang Chongloi also lauded the MPs, Ministers, MLAs, ADC members, villages' chiefs and civil society organisations who were present during the function for their efforts and assistance.
