Imphal, September 21 2014:
CPI Manipur State Council, the political party reportedly set up by Jananeta Hijam Irabot, would fight relentlessly against any challenge to the integrity of Manipur as well as graft practices in governance, stated CPI Manipur State Council Secretary Dr M Nara.
Manipurgi Apunba Saktam Kankhiba Numit (The day Manipur integrity was saved) was observed today at the Irabot Park, Lamlai-Chalou under the aegis of the Irabot Celebration Committee.
Ahead of the commemorative function, CPI veteran leader M Ibohal and many others paid floral tributes at the memorial tomb of the Pungdongbam Event.
Speaking at the gathering, Dr Nara said that the prevailing situation of Manipur demands a revisit to Hijam Irabot's life and his works.
CPI would always stand firm against any challenge to the integrity of Manipur and the party would relentlessly oppose graft practices in governance and public administration.
Manipur is now rudderless without any leader but infested with corruption.
A political leader indulging in graft practices has been exposed.
Now the BJP Government at the Centre cannot conceal the allegation of taking more than Rs one crore, Dr Nara asserted.
When the Congress Working Committee pushed for the creation of a Purvanchal State by merging together Manipur, Tripura, Cachar and Lushai Hills (Mizoram) in September 1948, Hijam Irabot raised a stiff objection and launched a movement to form a new egalitarian Manipuri society.
The agitation led by Irabot ended in victory and Manipur was thus saved from being pushed into oblivion.
To save the indigenous communities from the onslaught of incessant influx, an appropriate legislation should be enacted.
For this, all the people need to join hands, he said.
The gathering was also attended by many prominent party leaders.
