Chandel, August 20 2015 :
The Public Health Engineering (PHE), Chandel Division has provided potable water to flood affected villagers of the district, reports our correspondent.
Speaking to the media persons, Jameson Bungdon, District Co-ordinator, Chandel PHE Division clarified that after the recent devastating flood had destroyed the water pipelines, Chandel PHE Division has been providing potable water free of cost to the flood affected villagers of the district through tankers.
Prior to the restoration of the waterpipelines, Chandel PHE Division distributed potable water to Community Health Centre, Government school and other 8 villages of Chakpikarong area, he added.
"The Division also distributed drinking water in the district headquarters and other flood affected villagers of Island, some Aimol villages near Pallel as well as in Moreh area too.
Moreover, staff members of the Division contributed and extended aid to the flood affected victims of the district through the flood relief committee," maintained Jameson.
However, it is very unfortunate that the Naga Student's Union Chandel (NSUC) had accused the Chandel PHE Division of using tankers for commercial purposes in some local dailies, lamented the District Co-ordinator.
Jameson further maintained that the augmentation of water supply scheme at district headquarters and surrounding areas was handed over to the Village Water & Sanitation Committee, District HQ Chandel as per the guidelines of the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) in July last year.
As such, collection of water tax, operation and maintenance of the water supply in the district headquarters will be looked after by the said committee, he clarified.
