Vernacular daily, Ichel Express launched

A new Manipuri morning daily, Ichel Express will hit the newspapers stands from tomorrow (Thursday) .
The launch function of the morning daily was held today in front of the paper's office located at Hafiz Hatta, Imphal East.
The paper is being published by Ichel Group.
Dy CM Gaikhangam, AMWJU president W Shamjai, Commerce and Industries Minister K Govindas, Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, Parliamentary Secretary (MOBC) Md Amin Shah, chairman of Wakf Board, A Helim Choudhury, DC Imphal East M Joy and chairman of Ichel Group, Md Jalaluddin Shah attended the launch function as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Dy CM Gaikhangam said that the role of media in democracy is vast.
Media has crucial role to play in bringing development and peace in the society besides serving as a bridge between the public and the Govt.Media could cause fissure in the society as well as heal any societal malaises, he said.
Pointing out that media and media persons of the State have been playing pivotal role in bringing the State to the right direction, Gaikhangam conveyed his desire that the State media give extra efforts to address the present situation in the State.
The Dy CM exuded confidence that the newly launched morning daily, Ichel Express also takes a responsible role towards the society.
Gaikhangam also unveiled the commemorative plaque besides inspecting the newsroom, offset machine and other sections of the newspaper office.
He also launched the website of the paper, www.ichelexpress.org.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai said that Manipur is one among the NE States which practise ethical journalism.
Manipur has various daily (morning and evening) papers in English and local dialects besides a number of journals in different languages and dialects.
Many National dailies and electronic media have also stationed their representatives in the State, he added.
However, on the flip side, journalists in the State are ill-paid, he said while also adding that the present state of affairs in the Information and Public Relation Dept is lamentable.
