Health Minister launches PMSMA

The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level on June 9 this year was launched in the State today by Health Minister DK Korungthang.
The scheme was launched at a function held at the conference hall of JNIMS which was attended by Health Minister DK Korungthang, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner PK Singh, Health Director Dr O Ibomcha, Family Welfare Director K Rajo, Ayush Director L Lokendro and JNIMS Director Dr L Deben as presidium members.
Under PMSMA, Government hospitals, health centres, private hospitals/clinics and doctors who examine patients at their homes should provide free health check up opportunity to all expecting mothers in the ninth day of every month.
Speaking at the function, DK Korungthang appealed to all Government and private health centres to implement the scheme sincerely so as to reduce IMR and MMR in the State.
The Government has set a target of making all the 85 PHCs of the State open round the clock.
Out of them, 65 PHCs have been already made functional round the clock.
PMSMA would benefit around three crore expecting mothers across the country.
He called upon all expecting mothers to go for health check up regularly.
The Health Minister then appealed to all doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to discharge their duties with dedication at their respective places of posting.
The Health Ministersaid that there are 359 private clinics in the State but only 117 are registered.
Due process to get all private clinics registered is underway.
Almost 42 per cent of the child deliveries are done in private clinics.
