Ukhrul, August 08 2016:
Retired Government official Sword Vashum, an intending BJP candidate from 45 Chingai A/C, has categorically stated that strengthening the ties between the elected representatives and the people is vital to bring social reformation and development in the State for ensuring peaceful atmosphere.
There should be no communication gap between the elected representatives and the people to ensure good governance, he said while speaking to newsmen at Ukhrul today.
The elected representative should be accountable to the people otherwise there can be no trust between him/her and the people, he observed.
Vashum said that although Manipur is a small State it is home to numerous ethnic groups with different aspirations and demands and added that it is a land of diverse culture and custom, both in the hills and valley.
It is therefore important to resolve all differences amongst different ethnic groups politically.
The right of everyone should be respected as per the Constitution of India.
The difference between the hills and the valley should be addressed to on a priority basis, he said and added that no efforts should be spared to develop human resources.
According to him, elected representatives should consult the people first before enacting any law to respect public opinion.
Citing an example he said this was the reason why the President rejected one of the three Bills passed by the Assembly on August 31 last year.
Sword Vashum also stressed on the importance of heeding public opinion and added that all elected leaders are accountable to the people.
He further said that in electoral politics, the foremost duty of the people is choose the right leader and exercise their franchise rights freely and fairly.
He at the same time urged the political party leaders to check the merits and demerits of the aspiring candidates while issuing party ticket.
