Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight underway

The Senapati District Health Society formed a Steering Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district including Chief Medical Officer, ICDS Department, District Immunization Officer, District Programme Officer (NRHM), Education Department, PHE Division and Social Welfare Department.
The Committee organized programmes across the 3 blocks (Tadubi, Paomata and Purul) of Senapati District as part of the Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight observation from July 27 to August 8.These blocks recorded a population of 29,902 children between the age of 0-5 years.
The awareness was carried out from July 16 to 27 with assistance from ASHA and Health Workers.
Also, other departments which are enrolled under the Steering Committee, carried out varied function for the observation.
On the other hand, Education Department's demonstration on hygienic hand wash which is expected to cover 50 schools have covered about 29 schools till now, the department reported.
Further, Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) distributed ORS and Zinc Tablets from home to home and the PHE Division, Senapati gave safe drinking water to the school students.
In the first week of the fortnight drive, ASHA workers distributed Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) across homes.
In the second week (August 3 to 8), children with malnutrition were detected for necessary medical attention.
Demonstration and counselling on infant feeding was also carried out.
Moreover, 3 students rally, as part of the programme will be held at Kangpokpi, Senapati and Mao.
Mass Theatre, Manipur also performed a street drama on importance of Zinc Tablet on August 6 at four different location; Senapati District, Sapormeina, Kangpokpi and Mao.
Meanwhile, Host Community Health Centre (CHC) Mao also observed the Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight programme.
The centre hosted a demonstration on hygienic hand wash to students of four selected schools identified with diarrhea.
CHC also distributed Oral Dehydration Solution (ORS) powders to 44 ASHA workers and a demonstration on how to prepare ORS was also carried out.
