Imphal, August 06 2014:
Reacting to the sudden imposition of an admission policy in Manipur University, the whimsical action of the University authority asking the student hostellers to immediately vacate their rooms before 4 p.m.of August 6 and suspension of classes including the practical classes of PG courses, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) today demanded resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of the University for alleged failure to improve the academic atmosphere in the university.
In a press release jointly signed by its President Prof..MRanjit Singh and Secretary Prof.Soibam Ibotombi, MUTA condemned in strongest terms the unwarranted action on the agitating students who have been protesting peacefully against the University Authority.
'The present Vice-Chancellor has created history by allowing firing of the first salvo of Tear-gas Shell in the University Campus', the release asserted, while alleging that it showed the administrative failure of the Vice-Chancellor in bringing an amicable solution.
MUTA had already asked for resignation of the Vice-Chancellor for failing to improve the academic standard and streamlining the functioning of the University other than working as an autocratic Vice-Chancellor, the release added.
Citing incidents of breach of the agreement with MUTA signed on February 10 last, the teachers' body claimed that none of the MUTA's demands have been fulfilled so far.
It is high time for the present VC to vacate the chair in the academic interest of the University and public at large, the MUTA release added.
