Certificates, tailoring machines distributed to female jail inmates

Imphal, August 06 2014:
Manipur Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai distributed certificates and sewing machines to 15 female inmates of Imphal Central Jail on the completion of a six-month vocational training programme organised under the rehabilitation programme of Manipur State Women Development Corporation (MSWDC) .
The vocational training programme held at the jail was inaugurated by AK Mirabai last year.
MSWDC was established in 1995 as a pioneering Institute in the women's development sector of the state, specially for mobilisation and development of human resources, stretching across eco-social and cultural fields.
For implementing the schemes/project financial assistance are provided by the Central Government.
Minister Mirabai spoke at the event held at the jail complex.
She said the vocational training programme was organized with an aim to ensure self-earning jobs to the female prisoners.
She said Social Welfare Department has been making efforts to provide benefits of various schemes to the jail inmates so that they can lead a responsible life after completing their jail terms.
"Be courageous," Mirabai urged the prisoners, assuring that her department will extend all possible help to them.
Superintendant of Police, Imphal Central Jail, B Golian Mang, Director, Social Welfare Department, Dr Rangitabali Waikhom and other officials of the jail were also present at the occasion.
