Museum in Bangladesh preserving Meetei cultural relics

Many items, related to the ancient tradition and culture of the Meetei community are displayed at Chaoba Memorial Intellectual Property Museum in Bangladesh.
This was told by the Director of the Museum, Hamom Tannubabu to a 15-member team led by Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur secretary, Rakesh Naorem during their visit to the museum.
The Director stated that at least 4000 relics which describe the culture and lifestyle of Meeteis are displayed in the museum and motivated the natives of Manipur to kindly donate any relics and historical items as it will benefit and spread awareness to researchers or interested individuals about Meetei community.
Talking about the establishment of the museum, Tonnubabu said that even through the museum was dedicated to public in 2007, no sort of assistance or financial aid from Manipur and Bangladesh Government have been given for the museum till date.

The Director said, "The museum was built because I wanted to preserve and promote the very culture and identity of Manipur" while adding that several patrons and genuine donors were kind enough to donate many historical items which are the main reasons why the museum is still operating in Bangladesh.
Speaking to media persons, secretary of the fourm, Rakesh Naorem said that the setting up the museum and the numerous donations show that many Meitei people residing in Bangladesh have not forgotten their roots and origin.
He assured that the Patriotic Writers Forum will extend every possible support and assistance so that the museum continue to survive for a long time.
Founder secretary of the forum, OC Meira, Asst secretary S Anilkumar, Life members including NS Singh, Th Ruhinikumar, Patriotic Writers Forum Assam president Th Shyam, were also present at the tour.
Meanwhile, a cash prize of Rs 13,500 was handed over to Director of the museum by the forum.
It may be recalled that 30 delegates from Manipur represented India at recently concluded Indo-Bangla Manipur Cultural Festival 2018 under the aegis of Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur.
