16 DESAM executives arrested

Sixteen executives of Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) have been arrested on the charge of thrashing a teacher of St Joseph's School, Sangaiprou today.
Police said that the arrested students include DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba (31) s/o (L) Saratchandra of Nongada Makha Leikai, vice-president Arambam Thoithoi (33) s/o Biren of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and secretary general Pukhrambam Premchandra (32) s/o Binodkumar of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai.
On the other hand, students and teachers of St Joseph's School staged a sit-in-protest at the school premises against the assault of computer teacher Gurumayum Rupachandra Sharma (35) s/o Jadumani of Uripok Achom Leikai.
Rupachandra beat a Class-VI student with a stick on his hand for making noise and showing disrespect to the teacher yesterday.
Regarding the incident, the teacher was summoned by DESAM at its office and beaten up severely today.
