Kohima, August 13 2011:
National Highway 39, an arterial route connecting Kohima and Imphal, has remained cut off due to heavy landslides and mudslides at different locations between Chumukedima and Piphema, while many passengers bound for Manipur have been left stranded in Dimapur on Saturday.
The Border Road Organisation (BRO) has immediately pressed its task force into service to clear NH 39 since early morning.
The road clearance along the Dimapur-Kohima-Imphal route would take two days, said a BRO source.
Transporters plying along NH 39 had to return to Dimapur as all bypass routes leading to Kohima were also cut off.
The landslides between Dimapur and Kohima has caused lots of inconvenience to Manipur-bound passengers.
Since August 1, few goods- trucks have been plying along the Kohima-Jessami, but even this road has now a feasible alternative.
