IED recovered

Imphal, August 13 2011:
On the eve of the Independence Day, a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from Lilong bridge-Chajing junction this afternoon.
The IED was found covered by grass near the road-side retaining wall along Imphal-Moreh section of NH 39 at Lilong bridge-Chajing junction under Singjamei police station.
Local people first discovered the IED after which explosive experts of Manipur Police set it off safely at the same place.
The IED was of remote control type and a hand grenade was also found attached to the device.
Before the explosive was set off, police blocked traffic along the highway for some minutes for safety of the civilians.
Smoke candles were also lighted in the area to camouflage the operation of retrieving the IED.
