Amway Opportunity Foundation (AOF), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Amway India Enterprises Pvt Ltd, on the occasion of Patriots Day, paid a befitting tribute to the martyrs of Manipur Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General who sacrificed their lives during the Anglo Manipur War and organized a blood donation camp in RIMS today, with the highest numbers of blood donors turning up today in the history of RIMS.
RIMS authorities said that today the highest numbers of voluntary blood donors turned up today with altogether 225 turned up for the noble task where 219 donated blood after screening.
The blood donation camp organized in association with the Department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion, Rims was held with the objective to save lives with safe transfusion of blood during scarcity and also to make people aware of the umpteen health benefits of blood transfusion.
Speaking at the formal function, Prof A Meina, HOD, Department of Immunohaematology & Blood Transfusion, Rims, said that around 27000 units of blood is the yearly requirement of the state.
Rims shares about 14000 units of blood and JNIMS shares about 5/6 thousand units of blood.
The state therefore has a shortage of about 6/7 thousand units of blood yearly.
As such we should all encourage voluntary blood donation.
Director, Rims, Prof Kh Sekherjit applauded the initiative taken up by Amway and wishes that such blood donation camps is organized every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Manager- Corporate Communications, Amway, said that AOF and Amway Distributers have held over 400 blood donation camps over the past four years.
The team is organizing this blood donation camp for the first time in Manipur.
Over 40000 units of blood have been donated in various camps held.
The largest ever blood donation camp was held in Orissa with 830 donors.
In the blood donation camp 219 donors came up in which 179 of them were male and 40 were female donors.
According to RIMS Blood Bank authorities, it was the highest number of blood donation ever happened in a single day.
