Injured driver succumbs

Imphal, August 13 2011:
Driver of a truck who sustained grievous injuries due to attack by bandh supporters in the course of the ongoing agitation for Sadar Hills district demand, has succumbed to the injuries.
Driver Md Rehman (35) of Keirao Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district sustained serious injuries when his truck was attacked with a volley of stones at Keithelmanbi on the Imphal-Jiribam highway by blockade supporters on August 3 .
Since then, he had been undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
Md Rehman was transporting FCI rice from Jiribam along with security escorts when he was attacked by bandh supporters as he got down from his truck.
He succumbed to the injuries this morning at Shija Hospital.
Condoling the dead of Rehman, the All Manipur Road Transport and Motor Workers' Union has decided to suspend all transport services from this midnight till 6 pm tomorrow.
After post mortem at RIMS, the corpse of Rehman was taken to the office of the union at Mantripukhri where last respects were paid to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the Imphal Churachandpur Road Bus Owners and workers Association has also condoled the demise of Rehman and has taken a similar decision of suspending transport service from this midnight till the midnight of August 14 .
The association has conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family while also observing two minutes' silence in honour of the departed soul.
