Jiribam, August 23 2018:
CMO Jiribam Hospital has refuted the claim that doctors were absent when injured persons, who were rescued from the collapsed site of Bailey bridge at Goakhal yesterday were brought at the hospital for treatment.
E Okendro Singh, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Jiribam said the allegation about the absence of doctors is false and baseless.
It may be noted that under-construction Bailey bridge collapsed yesterday morning leaving 7 injured.
Speaking to media persons, he said that Dr N Jonna Singh, Medical Officer, Borobekra PHC along with his staff attended and provided first aid to the injured persons before referring for further treatment.
The CMO also added that he himself with advance life support ambulance rushed towards Borobekra and evacuated the injured patients to Silchar Medical college.
"However, a video clip has been circulated in electronic and social media claiming absence of doctors and staffs at Borobekra PHC.
It is very unfortunate," he said.
Dr N Jonna Singh, Medical Officer Borobekra PHC said that after receiving the information about the incident, he immediately rushed to attend the injured patients in the hospital.
Some people are spreading fake news in social and electronic media, he said and urged public to not believe such false news.
ADC, Jiribam Salam Peter backed the doctors claim and said that he himself along with Superintendent of Police, Jiribam District went to the spot and found the doctors providing treatment to the injured patients.
"It is due to their (doctors) initial and immediate treatments, seriously injured persons were saved," he said and rebuke the "fake news" about the absence of doctors.
Appealing people not to circulate such fake news, he warned that the district administration will take strong action against persons who are spreading the false news.
Meanwhile, AMSU, District Committee Jiribam has condemned the incident and held the authorities/contractors concerned responsible for the "unfortunate incident." Alleging that the bridge collapse due to negligence of the authorities concerned, AMSU appealed the State Government to provide appropriate compensation to the injured persons and assist in their treatment at hospitals.
