Catholic Church donates to COVID-19 relief fund

Imphal, April 09 2020:
The Catholic Church in Manipur under the aegis of the Archdiocese of Imphal, Manipur on Wednesday extended help towards the CM's COVID-19 Relief Fund and also provided essential commodities to people in and around Mantripukhri.
The Archdiocese of Imphal donated Rs 2 lakh while the Catholic Educational Society, Manipur donated Rs 3 lakh.
The total amount of Rs 5 lakh was handed over by Rev Fr Dale Joseph, financial administrator of the Archdiocese.
On the other hand, the Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS), Mantripukhri distributed relief materials to the stranded rent householders and labourers in and around Lamlongei, Mantripukhri in the presence of Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East and Most Rev.Dominic Lumon, the Archbishop of Imphal and Chairman of DSSS and head of the Catholic Church in Manipur.
The distributed items included 5 kgs of rice, 1 kg of dal, 1 kg of salt, turmeric, Dettol soap, hand wash and masks.
The cost of the essential items was worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
Archbishop Dominic Lumon urged the people not to panic but to maintain social distance and abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the Government.
The Deputy Commissioner and the SDO, Porompat also inspected the distribution scene and requested the people to maintain social distancing while distributing and receiving the aid.
The relief aids were distributed with the assistance of 16 local volunteers and the staff of DSSS.
