Govt jobs to next of kin of all deceased in election related incidents

Imphal, February 08, 2012: The state cabinet today approved to provide government jobs to the next of kin of the four polling personnel and four other persons who were killed in recent spate of election related violence.

The cabinet also approved to amend the Health Service Study Leave Rule to enable the MBBS doctors who are newly recruited as government doctors, to go for PG courses as soon as they enter their service.

The cabinet decisions will be implemented as soon as the green signal is received from the Election Commission of India.

Cabinet meeting further decided to offer an ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of the two CRPF personnel, who were killed in an ambush by the UNLF between Aishi and Kongkam under Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district on January 27; the CRPF personnel who was killed when NSCN-IM cadres opened fire at Tampi polling station in Chandel on January 28; one personnel who was killed in an ambush in Churachandpur district on January 16 and the SSB personnel who was killed in an accident along Imphal-Dimapur road.

The cabinet meeting also decided to give Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of Khimoulien who was killed in the firing incident at Tampi polling station on January 28, Makuchung Panmei who was killed in the shoot out in Khoupum by armed personnel, Maisnam Ratan who was killed in the bomb attack at the Speaker's residence on January 22 and Moirangthem ongbi Ragini who was killed in police firing on January 29. The next of kin of the eight persons including four polling personnel of Tampi polling station who were also killed in different election related incidents will be given suitable government services.

The cabinet meeting further gave its approval to amendment of Health Service Study Leave Rule to enable the MBBS doctors who are newly recruited as government doctors to go for PG courses as soon as they join service, contrary to the previous norm of requiring them to be in service for five years before allowing them to pursue PG courses.

The decision was taken considering the 270 post of specialist doctors remaining vacant and the number of district hospitals coming up.

An MBBS doctor who has just joined his/her service and is willing to pursue PG courses will have to sign an agreement with the state government stating that he/she will serve as a specialist doctor in a government hospital for five years after completing the PG course.

If he/she fails to do so they will be compelled to pay back the salary for three years which they have received while pursuing the PG course, in addition to 2% interest of the amount to the state government.

The cabinet meeting also approved prorogation of 9th Manipur State Legislative Assembly session.
