Free eye surgery camp held at Mao

A humanitarian group of doctors from Mumbai led by Dr Ulhas Vasave, and team felicitated an eye surgery camp at Mao Community Health Centre (CHC) .
About 20 cataract cases were operated free of cost with instruments and equipments brought by the team.
On being asked about their feelings about providing services for the downtrodden people of the schedule tribes, he commented, "The smile brought to the patients after the treatment is over whelming and that is the ultimate reward" .
He further remarked "Warm welcome, hospitality and corporation both from the District Administration and Civil organization given to us is what encourages in our mission to give sight to many.
We do not want any thing but the gratitude on the face of the patients is what we work for" .
Previously, on April, 2014, a screening was held for over 400 people.
The screening identified about 114 cataract cases which were then posted for surgery.
The 3 days eye surgery camp was expected to be launched from August 1 to 3.but due to technical problems faced while transporting their equipment an engineer had to be summoned on emergency.
After the rectification, however, the surgery was held.
The Eye Surgery Camp was organized by Intouch a local NGO, in collaboration with Rotary Club of Mao and Ashufiimei Development Society.
The camp was hosted by CHC Mao, District Health Society, Senapati and supported by District Administration, Senapati.
The camp was sponsored under National Blindness Control Programme and Facilitating Team from J.V Gokal Charity Trust, Mumbai.
The camp was well assisted by Oking Hospital Kohima through technical supports and supply of standby equipments.
The Team consisted of Dr.Javhvi Mehta, Dr.Ulhas Vasave, Anand Pawar, and Sanjay Bodake.
