Bus handyman held

A team of Bishnupur district police apprehended a bus handyman along with narcotic items today while checking vehicles at Nambol Phoijing crossing along Tiddim Road today.
According to a police source, the checking of vehicles and commuters was conducted by a team led by OC of Bisnupur CDO Unit, Inspector Y Shaktisen under the supervision of SP Bishnupur after receiving a reliable information about transportation of narcotic items.
The police team managed to recover the narcotic items when they stopped a bus by the name Royal Tours which was moving towards Imphal from Churachandpur and conducted a thorough search.
During the search, 653 grams of substances suspected to be Heroin powder wrapped in 54 soap cases were detected in a side panel attached by the window side.
The team also recovered 28,000 tablets weighing around 2.42 kg wrapped in a polythene bag.
The police, on preliminary interrogation, have also learnt that the items were allegedly concealed inside the panel by handyman of the bus, Md Abdul Lakip (20) from Kwakta Ward No 2 .
Subsequently, Abdul Lakip was pulled up and handed over to Nambol police station for necessary legal proceedings, the source continued.
