State government, through the Joint Monitoring Group of Suspension of Operation, has asked the Kuki based militant groups maintaining ceasefire with the government to hand over cadres involved in kidnapping of a post graduate student of RIMS, Kunal Chakraborty on July 20 last, Chief Minister O Ibobi in the house of the Assembly on Thursday.
The Chief Minister conveyed the House that IGP (Intelligence) who is the convener of the JMG has asked the militant groups to hand over if any of the cadres of under SoO were involved in the kidnapping beat in reply to a call attention motion moved by opposition MLA, Dr Ng Bijoy and Dr I Ibohalbi in the house yesterday.
Mention may be made that the PG student in Community Medicine, Kunal Chakraborty, of Tripura was kidnapped by three armed persons from near Molnom area of Churachandpur district on July 20 was rescued a joint team of Bishnupur district police commandos on the same day.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi said police could rescue the PG student following timely complaint by the RIMS authority.
Kidnappers freed him at place at Kanvai when police commandos immediately followed the kidnappers.
Government has the report of possibility of involving cadres of United Kuki Revolutionary (UKRA) maintaining ceasefire with government forces under SoO in the case.
IG (Intelligence) has contacted with the group asking them to hand over the cadres involved in the kidnapping case, he said.
If the RIMS authority happened to seek security protection to the movement of the students police would have had provided protection to them.
No security protection was sought by the authority, Ibobi added.
The two members drew the attention of the House while expressing concern over the increasing kidnapping of people for ransom.
Dr Ng Bijoy while moving the motion expressed concern over the increasing abduction of individuals and observed government stern action to control the same.
The post graduate student involved in the kidnapping incident is a resident of other state.
So government should take it seriously.
Other it will give a wrong impression to the people outside the state.
He also questioned how the RIMS authority keeps the hostel of the students studying at RIMS Imphal at a far off place like Saivon of Churachandpur.
