Imphal, July 23 2010:
Women Action for Development (WAD) today condemned the increasing human rights violations in the state.
WAD strongly condemned the abduction of two minors namely, L Nganba (12) and Ng Kuber (10) of Chingarel, the kidnapping of PG student of RIMS, Dr Kunal and the abduction of 23 year old youth by militants, a son of CPI Secretary in connection with contract demands to the State Heath Minister, Parijat.
The organization further opposed the threat on a Churachanpur correspondent of Sangai Express by a militant group who is engaged in Suspension of Operation with the state government.
It also expressed condolence to the controversial suicide of a mother, S Renubala (30) and her minor daughter Alba (6) of Thoubal district.
WAD reminded that in this current year 77 cases of violence against women has been reported in the local media including rape, murder, suicide, kidnapping, etc.
In view of the increasing crimes against humanity particularly to women and children, it appeals the state government to intervene in such serious crimes and ensure "right to life" of the citizens, added a press release of WAD.
