Job cards and pass books not issued to MGNREGS workers

Imphal, September 19 2011:
MGNREGS workers of Kairang Khomidok Gram Panchayat under Imphal East district have been reportedly deprived of their job cards and pass books.
According to official sources, the BDO have issued an order in 9th November 2010 to issue job cards and pass books of Post office accounts to the MGNREGS workers under Imphal East I.Inspite of the order the job cards and pass book has still not yet been issued to the workers.
There are around 228 MGNREGS workers under Kairang Khomidok Gram Panchayat.
Among them, 112 workers have not yet received their job cards and pass book of their accounts opened in the Post office.
Apart from this, the wages of these workers for the period between September 25th, 2008 to September 10,2011, has been reportedly misused.
Ibem, a MGNREGS worker said that he had time and again appealed to the Panchayat member of Kairang Khomodok Gram Panchayat, Ibecha , to hand over his card and pass book but refused to do so saying that it is in the post office.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Ombudsman (MGNREGS), Imphal east has instructed the Pradhan, member, Zila Parishad members and Panchayat Secretaries of Kairang Khomodok Gram Panchayat to issue job cards and pass books to the 112 MGNREGS workers before the 28th of this month..
