Imphal, October 04:
Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa has said over Rs 540 crores would be save annually from draining out of the State on education, if the standard education would be made provided to the students here in Manipur itself.
For improving the standard of education in the State, creating a conducive academic environment is, however, required first and foremost, he said.
Speaking to media persons at his office chamber today, the Education Minister said that his efforts would be concentrated on improving the standard of education in the State.
Towards this end, the Minister said efforts are being made to upgrade Manipur University into a Central University.
A Central Government team had recently visited and inspected the University in this connection.
Moreover efforts are also on to evict land enchroachers in University campus by outlining proper demarcation, he added.
The Education Minister is of the opinion that the standard of education before 1980 was better.
But it has been slowly deteriorated down the years.
The academic calendar could not be maintained properly and at least two to three months are wasted due to various disturbances, he said, and stressed on improving and streamlining the existing education system.
Education Minister said instruction have been given to Director of Education (S) and all the ZEO concerned for finding out the exact number of existing Government teaching and non-teaching staff in the State.
Taking serious note of prevalence of the proxy-teaching, in which the teachers concerned hired somebody to do the teaching works and give a percentage of the salary, Francis said that disciplinary action would be taken up against such Government teachers if they found doing so.
