Imphal, October 04:
One Thangjam Ibempishak Devi of Thoubal whose 20-year old son, Binoy was gunned down allegedly in a fake encounter by troopers of Assam Rifles during Yaoshang festival this year has filed a complaint petition before the Manipur Human Rights Commission today.
The bereaved mother prayed before the Commission to direct the authorities concerned to look into the complaint and take up action according to the law of the land.
Ibempishak said that her son was an innocent boy having no connection whatsoever with any underground outfits.
He even attempted to join Assam Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion to help in maintaining the family.
But the authority has also not given ex-gratia on the death of her son, she lamented.
Giving a brief case history, the bereaved mother informed that a large number of Assam Rifles personnel intruded her Ingkhol on the intervening nights of March 6 and 7 this year.
One Manipuri speaking jawan whose face was covered with black cloth except for his eyes asked to open the door for questioning Binoy.
When she opened the door, some personnel rushed inside the house and dragged out Binoy who was sleeping on his bed already.
The AR personnel also ransacked the house before whisking away her son without issuing any arrest memo.
Later the womenfolk of the area informed the matter to Thoubal Police Station.
The complaint petition further said that one white Maruti Gypsy was seen coming out from the headquarters of 28 Bn Assam Rifles.
The vehicle returned soon and after a short while sounds of gun fire was heard.
When the womenfolk appraised the matter to the Chief Minister, the latter only told the mother that he was very sorry that her son could not be saved by the police.
