Imphal, October 04:
Even as the Nation celebrated Gandhi Jayenti to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the Leprosy patients at Leprosy Hospital, Lei Ingkhol, Chingmeirong, in whose memory the hospital was build, are said to have been left to their own fate, thanks to apathetic attitude of the State Government.
A team of Bharat Sewak Samaj, Manipur State Branch visited the hospital on the occasion of Gandhi Jayenti yesterday and was shocked to find the kind of treatment being meted out to the patients, Branch chairman and ex-Minister Kangjamba Singh informed in a statement today.
He said that the patients are being deprived of their ration and there is no facility for providing safe drinking water and toilet for the hospital inmates.
Indicating that the condition of the other two leprosy hospitals at Bishnupur and Thoubal might not be better, if not worst than the one at Lei Ingkhol, which is the largest, Kangjamba observed that the only fitting tributes that the State Government could pay to Mahatma Gandhi is to improve the condition of the hospitals and take proper care of the patients.
