Imphal, August 24 2016:
Even though Manipur is a small State with limited resources, Mani-pur can certainly become a advanced State within a short period if the people are hard-working, stated International Youth Federation (IYF) General Secretary Jae Hong Kim.
Higher and Technical Education Department today organised the first Manipur Educators Mind-Set Workshop at Hotel Classic Grande here in association with IYF, South Korea.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Education Minister Dr Ksh Ratankumar, IYF Odisha Director Soo Yeon Kim and IYF General Secretary Jae Hong Kim attended the workshop as chief guest, president and guests of honour.
Speaking at the workshop, Jae Hong Kim said that limited resources cannot be a hurdle to the quest for development of a society.
South Korea too is a small nation with limited resources.
Nonetheless it is now a developed nation as all the citizens are skilful in one trade or other.
South Korea focused on skill development rather than concentrating all the efforts on general education.
For development of Manipur, the primary focus should be on youth.
Youth should be first imbibed with positive attitude and productive mind-set.
Then they should be imparting training on different professions/vocations of their choice, Jae Hong Kim said.
IYF opened a branch in Manipur in 2015.Since then, IYF has been supporting many youth who are either jobless, addicted to drugs or enduring different forms of trouble.
After signing MoUs with different countries, IYF has been working to enable youngsters contribute to their development of their respective countries.
IYF can contribute more towards development of Manipur if such an MoU is signed with the Government of Manipur, Jae Hong Kim said.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam remarked that majority of the youth of Manipur have a predilection toward general education and scoring good marks.
But they seldom explore other areas of interest and skills.
Youth need to pay due attention towards skill development rather focusing all their energy on general education.
The Deputy Chief Minister then expressed keen desire for parents, senior citizens and teachers to take pro-active roles in leading the youngsters on the right path.
Youth of the State should understand they have immense roles to play towards economic development of Manipur, Gaikhangam.
The workshop culminated with an interaction session.
