ECI directs CEO to prepare for re-poll

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur to prepare for all necessary arrangements including security measures for re-poll in some of the polling stations of the state.
According to report received from the State Election Office, the ECI would dispatch some Observers to Imphal on February 22 next for a joint meeting with the representatives of different political parties.
The ECI is most likely to announce schedule for re-poll on February 23 and fix either March 2 or 3 for the re-poll.
The reports further revealed that a tele-conferencing between the officials of ECI and the officials of State Election Office was held at around 3 pm today held at the conference hall of NIC located at Manipur Secretariat.
Alok Shukla, Deputy Election Commissioner of ECI; Anuj Jaipuriya, Election Commissioner and the three Special Observers, who have recently visited the state, namely Sunil Gupta, CEO, West Bengal; DK Pandey, IPS, CRPF, Ranchi and Gaurav Dwivedi,IAS, Director, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Technology, New Delhi were present from the side of ECI in the tele-conference while the team of State Election office included PC Lawmkunga, CEO; N Prabin, Joint CEO and K Bono, Assistant CEO.
During the teleconferencing, the ECI directed the CEO, Manipur to make all necessary arrangements for re-poll in some of the polling stations and also to complete the photo verification process by February 20 and submit the report of the same to the Commission.
It is said that a software has been newly developed to expedite the photo verification process.
The newly developed software can detect any difference in the photographs of the electorates taken during the polling process and those in the Electoral Rolls.
The software can also detect multiple voting as well as double enrollment in the Electoral Rolls.
The report further conveyed that there would be another round of tele-conferencing between the officials of ECI and officials of State Election Office on February 21 next.
