Manipur 'Independence' Day observed

Meetei Inat Thougal Lup, Coalition for Indegenes' Rights Campaign (CIRCA), Youth Front (DESAM & AIMS), Kalinagar Youth Club, Lairembi Leikai Nupi Marup, Jiri Louri Khongthang Lup , Apokpa Marup, Jiribam , Meetei National Front, Jiribam branch, Lainingthou Sanamahi Thougal Kanglup, Jiribam Branch jointly organised Manipur Independence Day, August 14 at Lairembi Phampak, Kalinagar part-1 with traditional zeal and fervour.
Kumba Luwang president, Meetei Inat Thougal Lup, Hamom Dhani advisor, Jiri Louri Khongthang Lup, P Sanouton president, Kalinagar Youth Club , Kh Ongbi Memma Devi president, Lairembi Leikai Nupi Marup, Longjam Robin CIRCA Advisor, Youth Front and M Janmajor President, Apokpa Marup Manipur, Assam, Tripura attended the function as dignitaries.
The day was begun with the hoisting of customary flag which is inscribed with the picture of Ibhudhou Pakhangba by Kumba Luwang .
President, Meetei Inat Thougal lup while Longjam Robin, Advisor, CIRCA, DESAM & AIMS welcomed the dignitaries and the participants and explained the significance of the observance.
During the function, Kumba Luwang, president, Meetei Inat Thougal lup said that August 14 is the day when King Budhachandra yet again hoisted our customary flag at Kangla after Manipur got independence in 1947 from the British rule while adding that we should never disregard the importance of the day which has brought freedom in every aspect of life for Meetei including the right to practice our own religion.
Hamom Dhani advisor, Jiri Louri Khongthang Lup also expressed that August 14 is observed to remind our people that Kangleipak was once an independent entity and our fore-fathers lived a life of self-determination and sacrificed their life for an Independent nation.
He also praised the quality possessed by Manipuri women in that era who are well equipped in weaving their own clothes.
In Bishnupur district, as observed across the State under CIRCA, the 72nd Manipur Independence day was observed by hoisting our customary flag inscribed with Ibudhou Pakhangbaat at different main markets of Bishnupur district.
The observance was held under the supervision of Naharup Pana Bishnupur convener Taorem Khaba Khuman along with elder women, meira paibi and club at various major market including Nambol market, Bishnupur market, Ningthoukhong market, Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, Yakeibung Shanglen, Moirang Lamkhai, Moirang market, Moirangkhunou, Keirenphabi, Thangalawai, Kumbi Thong Wangma, Ithai, Sagang, Laingoubi, Napat and Wangoo.
In Ningthoukhong market, TK Tombisana Devi president, Women Development Voluntary Organisation Bishnupur led the observance along with members of Naharup pana.
