Imphal, August 14 2018:
In compliance with the order issued by Registrar of Societies on August 1, instructing All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) to hold fresh election of its executive council on August 24 and renewal of voting rights, 10 district associations out of the 13, affiliated to AMFA renewed their voting rights today.
Earlier, the Registrar had ordered all the concerned eligible voters to submit fee or subscription due for renewal on or before August 14 .
The 10 district associations which have renewed their voting rights till today are District Football Association Moreh, District Football Association Thoubal, District Sports Association Churachandpur, District Sports Association Senapati, District Sports Association Tamenglong, All Jiribam Sports Association, District Sports Association Ukhrul, District Sports Association Chandel, District Sports Association Bishnupur and Imphal East District Football Association.
The three associations which failed to renew the same were, District Sports Association Sadar Hills, Imphal West District Football Association and District Sports Association Kakching.
It may be mentioned that AMFA's normal functioning was hindered on many fronts after the body was charged by a Manipur State League club with irregularities in submitting reports and documents of the general body meetings held on May 1, 2016 in time.
Since then, the matter was dragged to the Registrar of Societies and the High Court of Manipur.
The issue remained unsettled till date and the Registrar of Societies considering the general interest and need for the existence of a fully functional and active football association in the State, ordered AMFA to hold fresh election on August 24 .
Meanwhile, Football Players' Association of Manipur hailed the landmark order of the Registrar of Societies instructing AMFA to hold a fresh election of its executive council.
The association in a press meet held on August 7, had urged the concerned authorities to resolve the matter as soon as possible and let the players play the game freely in the State and warned of agitations if appropriate actions are not taken up by August 14 .
With the new development, the proposed agitation for speedy settlement of the issue has been withdrawn for few days, said a press release issued by the association.
Stating that the issue is a disastrous one and extremely detrimental to players' careers and development of the game in the State, the association requested all football players and football enthusiasts of the State to support the association in every step till the issue is fully resolved and asked all the concerned not to organise any recognised tournament or league in the meantime.
