Imphal, November 02 2011:
Asserting that the MoU was signed with the State Government after considering the appeals from the Union Home Minister, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee has however made it clear should the Government reneged on its assurance to upgrade Sadar Hills to the status of a full fledged district, it would be constrained to revoke the suspension of the economic blockade, general strike etc on the National Highways.
In a memorandum submitted to the Home Minister, SHDDC said that the assurance to inaugurate Sadar Hills as a district at the 'earliest' indicates a time before the election code of conduct comes into force for the Assembly election and expressed faith that the 40 years long Constitutional demand of the Sadar Hills people would be fulfilled.
SHDDC also reminded the Home Minister that the titular King of Manipur had earlier written to the President of the country on the Constitutionality and genuineness of the demand to upgrade Sadar Hills to a district.
