Manipur University welcomes Myanmar delegates

Centre for Myanmar studies, Manipur University, organised an interactive session with State Constitution Coordinating Body (Myanmar) on Borderland and Governance: North East India and Myanmar, at the Court Hall of the university today.
Prof N Lokendra Singh, Director, Centre for Myanmar Studies, Manipur University and Dr Sai Oo, Director, Pyidaungsu Institute, Myanmar, attended the event as the presidium members while Prof MC Arunkumar, Program Coordinator, Centre for Myanmar Studies, MU gave the welcome address.
65 participants along with 33 Myanmar delegates (consisting of ethnic armed group from Chin, Kachin, Karen and Shan States, political parties and CSOs) took part in the event today.
The morning session of the conference cum interactive session was based on the understanding of the administrative system in Manipur, with Prof W Nabakumar as the moderator.
O Nabakishore (IAS, Director General, State Academy of Training, Manipur) spoke on the administrative system in the State while BK Sharma (Joint Director, Manipur Judicial Academy, Manipur High Court) delivered a speech on the judiciary system in Manipur.
Clay Khongsai (IPS, Inspector General of Police) talked about security problems in Manipur while Dr Vareiso Ningshen, LMS Law College, Imphal, spoke on the topic of politics of Article 371 C of Indian Constitution.
On the other hand, Babloo Loitongbam (Human Rights Alert, Manipur) talked on The Struggle for Justice: A Perspective on AFSPA, 1958 and Pradip Phanjoubam (Editor, Imphal Free Press) explained the role of media in the State.
The afternoon session was moderated by Prof N Lokendra Singh (Dean, School of Social Science & Director, Centre for Myanmar Studies, MU) and the session was based on building partnership across borders, with Myanmar panellists including Victor Biak Lian (Head of Myanmar Delegates), Maran Ja Seng Hkawn (Member of Parliament, Kachin State Parliament) and Sai Kyaw Nyunt (Joint General Secretary, Shan National League for Democracy).
Tomorrow the delegates will go sight seeing at Kangla fort and War Cemetery, Imphal.
They will visit the Assembly Secretariat and Secretariat Museum before meeting the Chief Minister at his office chamber at around 5 pm.
At around 7 pm, they will have a dinner and be entertained by Rotary Club, Imphal.
The Myanmar delegates will check out on December 13.The trip to North East India by State Constitution Coordinating Body (Myanmar) began from December 5 .
