Imphal, December 11 2018:
Thoubal River Conversation Committee drew the attention of the concerned authority to look into the uncheck quarrying of sand from Thoubal river using heavy machineries including JCB and Pokland by the wealthy agents, said a statement released by convenor Thoubal River Conversation Committee, Kh Inaocha.
The statement mentioned that such rampant extraction of sand from Thoubal river made the Water muddy and filthy rendering the water unfit to consume for the general public residing along the river which include people of Andro, Heirok, Wangkhem, Lilong and Thoubal ACs dwelling near the bank of Thoubal river.
Thoubal River Conversation Committee was formed in 2017 to save Thoubal river from the hands of the greedy agents, the statement added and maintained that a number of memorandums have been submitted to the relevant department and the authority concerned including the CM of Manipur and a score of protests have also been staged in different localities of Thoubal district to highlight the issue but no positive response has received so far.
As such, the committee cautioned the drivers of the TATA trucks and its associate to stay alert while transporting out the sand from the deep pit of Thoubal river as the general public are fed up with the rampant quarrying of sand that make the water unusable and they can resort to physical violence and Thoubal River Conversation Committee could not be held responsible for such untoward incident, added the statement.
