New buildings of three higher secondary schools, constructed at a cost of Rs 3 crore each under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) were inaugurated today by state Education minister, L Jayentakumar.
The new buildings of Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Khurai Lamlong Bazar, Wangoi Higher Secondary School, Wangoi and Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Keishamthong Top Leirak were constructed with central assistance sanctioned during 2007-08 fiscal year.
The minister inaugurated the building of Lamlong Higher Secondary School first next was the inauguration function at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School followed by the inauguration function at the Wangoi Higher Secondary School.
Addressing the inaugural functions, Education Minister, L Jayentakumar expressed hope that there would emerge a marked change in the education standard in the state with the extension of the Right to Education Act 2009.Under the act, complaints can now be placed before the government if a fails to avail education facilities.
A new approach in the education system is also coming up and under the new system the conduct of examinations by a board for Standard-X will be abolished and national level examinations will be conducted at Standard-XII.
As the new system is getting ready to switch on, government will impart special training to teachers who were appointed after 2001 and teachers who are not trained will be asked to retire from the teaching profession, the minister said.
He further said that the school buildings inaugurated today was out of 11 dilapidated buildings selected out by the government for construction from funds from the SPA.
Apart from the school buildings development of hostels for students, construction of toilets and compound fencing have also been included, he added.
