After the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), another flagship programme of the Central government called National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) is coming up in the state, said state health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat today.
Further speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of a Primary Health Centre at Sangaipat in Imphal East district today, the health minister observed that with the implementation of the NRHM, a mark improvement has been made in the healthcare delivery system in the state.
Government has also been able to provide medicines to needy patients free of cost, he said expressing hope that with the coming up of NUHM, the healthcare delivery system will be improved further and cover more areas extensively.
The coming up NUHM will enhance the state government's new scheme of providing free healthcare to all sections of the people with medicine free of cost to the poorer sections of society.
The required funds for the new scheme is to be shared 50/50 between the state and central governments.
State government has earmarked Rs 2 crores which is a half of the total cost for starting the implementation of the scheme, the chief guest added.
The utilization of funds, which would be released to the Primary Health Centres, Primary Health sub-centres and Community health Centres, will be monitored by a committee in each centre.
Each centre will get a sum of Rs 20,000 a year, Parijat said.
Stressing the need for people's co-operation in running a primary health centre successfully, the minister appealed to the people to look after the centre inaugurated today as their own property and to take good care of it.
Circle MLA of Wangkhei Assembly Constituency, MLA E Suraj who presided over the inaugural function expressed satisfaction at the inauguration of the building of the Primary Health Sub Centre.
Prior to this the centre was being run on rented premises.
With the inauguration of the building today, the long cherished dream of the local people has been fulfilled, he said appealing to the people to take good care of it and to avail of the facilities whenever needed.
The inaugural function was also attended by director of family welfare services, Dr L Joykumar, chief medical officer of Imphal east district, Dr Momota Mukherjee, Dr RK Tilotama and president of the Brahmapur Social club, O Nimai as guests of honour.
